I'm On It: Focus Timer for ADHD & ASDの説明

A timer app, with regular reminders to stay on task.

The "I'm On It!" timer app for Android is designed specifically for people who struggle to stay focused on the task at hand. These may be children or adults with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD, or ADD) as well as people working through the unique challenges of High Functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder, or ASD (Asperger's Syndrome), and, of course, anyone who struggles to stay focused.

Research-based features

Designed from the ground up to help you or your child with ASD or ADHD learn to stay focused.

Features include:

* A countdown timer, that can be set for any length of time up to 60 minutes (1 hour) so you can divide large tasks into shorter chunks.

* An audible reminder or silent vibration that can be set to go off at regular intervals to keep you on task.

* "Are you staying focused?" Keep track of your progress and work towards a higher score.

* Motivation after each reminder. "Keep going! You can do it!" (text fades quickly to remove distraction)

* Adjustable reminder intervals in the form of "Levels." Once you have mastered level 1, move on to level two. Reminders can be set to anywhere from every 30 seconds to 30 minutes.

* Three visual cues represent the remaining time:

-- A moving clock hand that rotates towards 0.

-- A horizontal progress bar that moves towards the end.

-- A large, easy to read digital display.

* Highly customizable appearance: turn elements on or off to suit your needs. Choose the visualization that works best for you without the distraction of extra features on the screen.

This app can help you. But don't take my word for it:

"One of the most useful tools anyone with ADD /ADHD can have is a timer... set at intervals to keep your mind on task"

--Bonnie Mincu, Senior Certified ADHD Coach

"Helping kids who distract easily involves... breaking long work into shorter chunks"

--Jeanne Segal, Ph.D. and Melinda Smith, M.A.

"Use timers. Allot yourself limited amounts of time for each task and use a timer or alarm to alert you when your time is up. For longer tasks, consider setting an alarm to go off at regular intervals to keep you productive and aware of how much time is going by."

--Robert Segal, M.A., and Melinda Smith, M.A.

"Along with more frequent feedback, children with ADHD/ADD generally require shorter intervals between the opportunity to earn rewards... [and] require more frequent reminders about what is expected of them"

--David Rabiner, Ph.D. Duke University

"For some children [on the autism spectrum] it is helpful to set a timer so the child can keep track of how much time is left... Some children need reminders as the time is winding down to 2 minutes, 1 minute, etc."

--Rachel Wise, NCSP, M.Ed, licensed behavior specialist

"Individuals with autism have trouble perceiving the passage of time... according to two new studies. ...Anecdotal reports suggest that individuals with autism have trouble gauging how much time has passed... One possible interpretation of these results is that individuals with autism construct a rolling average of all the time intervals they’ve experienced across trials. "

--Amanda Leigh Mascarelli

"Most children get better at estimating time as they grow. They learn by averaging their experiences — for instance, previous trips to a supermarket or conversational pauses. Some children have an innate sense of time and rely less on this imprecise averaging tactic. Children with autism are known to have trouble estimating time. A new study suggests a reason for the problem: their relative inability to rely on past experiences as a guide."

--Rachel Zamzow, Ph.D. neuroscience

"Help your child become aware of the things that distract her. With time and practice, she’ll get to know what being distracted feels like, and will recognize when her attention is drifting."

-- ADDitude Editors
